Oh So Quiet

Saw a new ad for Candy Crush last night:

I immediately recognized the song as Björk‘s “It’s Oh So Quiet,” . . .

. . . though sung by someone else, no matter what iSpot claims.*

But when looking up the song I was surprised to find that what I had always thought was a postmodern pastiche of ’50s song styles was actually a pretty straight cover of an actual 1951 hit by Betty Hutton:

And that version was an English translation of a German song performed by Horst Winter, “Und jetzt ist es still”:
