While checking out Carlos Alomar‘s credits outside of his long tenure with David Bowie, I was surprised to find that he played guitar on Ben E.King’s recording of “Supernatural Thing”:
Is it just me or is the chicka-chicka guitar riff very similar to the one Alomar came up with for David Bowie’s “Fame,” which came out at roughly the same time? I guess this illustrates the difference between rhythm and melody.
“Supernatural Thing” was later covered by Souixsie and the Banshees:
I was also surprised to find that “Supernatural Thing” was co-written by Gwen Guthrie (with Patrick Grant), who sang, wrote and produced the house classic, “Ain’t Nothing Going On But the Rent”:
Guess we know how she paid the rent.
