Tragedy in Dallas

“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy, instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate.

“Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

— Martin Luther King Jr.

The killing of police officers in Dallas is a terrible tragedy. It was not a political act, but a simple act of hatred. The killer/s did not represent #BlackLivesMatter, but hid their individual acts of mass murder behind a just cause. Far from furthering the goals of #BlackLivesMatter, the killer/s more likely set the movement back. They have made it far too easy for haters to dismiss #BlackLivesMatter as arguing ONLY #BlackLivesMatter instead of spreading the message that #BlackLivesMatter AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE’S.

Yes, #EveryLifeMatters, black, white, red, yellow, brown, etc., citizen, police, CEO, etc., male, female, LGBT, but until we cease to weight these different lives differently, there is no equality.
