Other Music, the legendary New York Record Store, just announced that it will be closing after more than 20 years of spreading the gospel of independent, underground, experimental and just plain weird music.
I didn’t get to the store very often, but every time I did, I ended up dramatically overspending because it was so amazing to find actual physical copies in stock of obscure recordings that could normally only be found after much searching online. And its weekly updates (lovingly written by employees, not the quoted press releases used in most stores’ mailings) were one of the very best sources for keeping up with new music from outside the mainstream.
You will be missed!
