Time Warp McDonald’s

I couldn’t believe what was playing when I walked into the Four Corners (Silver Spring, MD) McDonald’s the other day, Television’s “See No Evil”:

What? This 1977 song was never a hit. It was never even a single.

This was followed by several other new wave (or new wave-influenced) songs, David Bowie’s “This Is Not America” . . .

. . . Peter Gabriel’s “Games Without Frontiers” . . .

. . . Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” (short version, without “Where Did Our Love Go?”) . . .

. . . and The Cure’s “Letter to Elise”:

Clearly, I had stumbled into a “Time Warp”

But I still can’t understand how Television made the cut. All of these other songs were hits, got lots of play on radio and MTV, but Television remains relatively, and undeservedly, obscure. Props to whoever stuck it into the playlist.
