Blue Jean, James Dean

In “Style,” . . .

. . . Taylor Swift describes herself as:

And I got that red lip classic thing that you like . . .

And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt . . .

Wait a minute, isn’t that exactly the sort of girl she hated on in “You Belong with Me”:

But she wears short skirts
I wear t-shirts . . .

She wears high heels,
I wear sneakers . . .

Her taste in men seems to have remained the same, though.

That was then:

Walk in the streets with you in your worn out jeans . . .

And this is now:

You got that James Dean day dream look in your eye . . .

You got that long hair, slicked back, white t-shirt.

Apparently, James Dean‘s blue jeans and white t-shirt never go out of style:

Of course, Dean has long been an icon of American Cool. Brits like David Essex also invoke his name as shorthand for cool:

I wonder if Essex has finally found his “blue jean, baby queen. prettiest girl I’ve ever seen” in Behati Prinsloo in the Victoria’s Secret’s new “Be Fabulous” ad:
