Thom Lieb has launched a new website, Sit Down/Listen Up, built on the simple idea of a stable of writers sitting down and listening to “one album, no distractions.”
I just uploaded my first post to the site, a review of my favorite album of 2014, Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence:
Lana Del Rey is unstuck in time. Black and white amid the shiny, vivid color palette of current pop, she sounds like a flashback to the past.
But what past? If you actually compare her to popular music from earlier eras, Del Rey doesn’t really fit in there either. Her songs seem to emanate from a radio in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks or Blue Velvet . . . (Read the rest here)
