Some Gems from Rosie Lowe and, well, GEMS

One of my students introduced me to Rosie Lowe (thanks, Chloe).  The title track of her new EP, Right Thing, is a very nice slice of post-James Blake indie R&B:

It’s funny how different people can place the same music within different genres.  The Washington Post‘s Chris Richards compares DC band GEMS to the Cocteau Twins and they describe themselves as “dream pop.”  Their work would certainly fit very well on the 4AD label.

But when I listen to “Sinking Stone,” I hear it as indie R&B in line with artists like Jessie Ware or Rosie Lowe:

However you label it, it is still a gem.
