Stoker

I finally got around to watching the movie Stoker (no direct relationship to Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula).   The film does not quite come together as either a Patricia Highsmith-esque story (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train, etc.) or as a girl’s coming of age story, but the look and sound design are amazing.  Part of the latter is due to another very nice soundtrack by Clint Mansell.  The movie also prominently featured “Summer Wine” by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood.

However, I want to highlight songs by two artists that were new to me.

First is “A Pile Ou Face” by the French duo Felipecha:

Unfortunately, it does no seem to appear on the soundtrack album.

However, Emily Wells does.  On “Becomes the Color,” she sounds a bit like Cat Power singing a Lana Del Rey song:
