Fox’s promos for the upcoming second season of The Following feature Golden State‘s slowed down, creepy version of “Obsession”:

It is identified on YouTube as a cover of Animotion . . .

. . . but that band’s one hit was a cover itself, of the song’s co-writers, Holly Knight and Michael Des Barres, . . .

. . . who recorded the song for the 1983 movie A Night in Heaven.  Thirty years later, Des Barres has rerecorded it with Teal Collins Zee.

By the way, Michael Des Barres was featured in the classic “Hoodlum Rock” episode of WKRP in Cincinatti.  His real band, Detective, also supplied the music for the fictional group, Scum of the Earth.  Des Barres later played a DJ on The New WKRP in Cincinatti.
