Not Goth, Post-punk

At the beginning of the first episode of Luther‘s new season, Luther (Idris Elba) and his partner are standing over the body of a corpse.  The dead woman is dressed in a black leather corset and miniskirt over a ripped fishnet body stocking; a mask with bright red lipstick has been placed over her face and a black wig on her head.

Luther explains that the killer must have brought the outfit with him:

“Look, it’s a very specific look.  The wig.  The makeup.  It’s a bit of a Siouxsie and the Banshees thing going on here.”

His much younger partner asks, “The who and the what?”

“’80s.  Post-punk.”

“Oh, goths.”

“Post-punk,” Luther corrects.
